Yo, everyone. Sorry I've been gone for so long.
I figure you all would like an explanation, so here's what all happened since my last post on May 15th (has it really been that long?):
My computer was entering its final days to live, anyway, and during that weekend, the hard drive died along with the motherboard. Many parts were defective or low-quality upon breaking time, so I figured the best way to go about it would be to junk the computer altogether (save for my network card, the processor, and the floppy drive). The immeadiate plan was to use my parents' computer for updating, but that thing has more defective material than a Howard Stern broadcast. Basically, a virus hit and permanently fucked up the Internet Cookies, so there was no way I could log in to ANYTHING; my e-mail client, my websites, anything. Took me a week or two just to get AIM and a non-cookie e-mail account going. I offered to fix this junk of a PC, but my parents refused, basically saying "if it ain't broke, don't fix it".
So that was that. Earlier this month, I found a nice Gateway quad-core PC for cheap on woot.com, so I bought it. After a few days of modding and updating, I'm ready to handle the Button Masher blogs once more, but only until I get booted from this house in September. From there, I don't know what's going to happen.
Now that the explanation is out of the way, I'd like to give a big thanks to Biccy for replacing my Wensday posts, and that he continues to update every Wensday right here on BM Blogs.
But what will that leave me? Well, I've been saving this for a long time. Best to reveal it now.
Back in May, I've started to come out on my own as a PC Power User, and finally figuring out how to completely control a Windows OS. Basically, make it my personal bitch. I thought about what I was doing to a PC and thought, "What if I could do that to gaming, too?"
Without further ado, I present the Power Gamer Series (PGS).
In this series, I will take a game and present to you, the reader, not just how to beat it, but how to utterly decimate it. Control every aspect of the game, and die a minimum number of times, if at all. For this, I will use a combination of strategy guides, videos, and my own personal research to show you how to best make a video game cry from its disc (or cartridge). Also, for every run I do, I will not use a glitch, password, or GameShark (GameGenie). Every game will be done legally, so to speak. Every game will be a multi-part series, spanning however long it needs to be.
For my first game (aka the trial run), I will bust out my personal favorite game of all time: The Legend of Zelda: A Link to the Past. The idea for this came about when I completed a 100% speed run of this SNES iconic game in under 6 hours. Thus, I think it will make the perfect guinea pig for this Power Gamer run. For purposes of this run, I will actually use the GBA version of LTTP due to 2 things included that wasn't in the SNES version:
1) There's an extra warp point in the GBA version, the SNES did not. 2) There's an extra dungeon after you complete the GBA version, while the SNES did not have this.
Thus, I will use the GBA version, so you can see everything that I did, though you can still easily follow along on the SNES edition, too.
I will update every Saturday for this PGS until completion.
So, until next Saturday!!! ~Red Mage
