So, first off, forgive me for 1) this being late, and 2) missing 8-Bits last night. My internet provider decided that it would be fun times for all to cut off their services. The internet at my house just came back on at around 9PM Eastern Standard Time, so yeah. Their fault, not mine, but I apologize, anyway.
Y'know, I thought the news on Jack Thompson's Bar Trial ruling would be sent in by now, but I guess I was wrong. Judge Dava Tunis is sure taking his time reaching a decision.
In case you didn't know (but you probably did), GamePolitics is running a multi-part series on Thompson's Bar trial, showing transcripts of various testimonies and cross-examinations. So far, here's the first, second, third, fourth, fifth, sixth, and today's parts on JT's trial. Now, as I'm reading these articles and waiting to see where JT's lack of videogame knowledge comes into play, the articles, more or less, pissed me off.
Ok, I understand, in a courtroom, you're to be against the other side and the lawyers of said side. That's to be expected. Of course, prolonged exposure to lawyers in courtrooms gives you a chance to know their personality. Some lawyers may be nice people and you respect them, even if the two of you are on opposite sides of the courtroom. I also understand that you may not like the opposing lawyer as a person. That's fine, but you MUST respect him/her as a lawyer.
What I read in these 7 articles was Jack Thompson being anything BUT a responsible and respectful lawyer. While that was to kinda be expected, due to his constant lying of the gaming industry, but to consistently e-mail hateful letters to lawyers and judges just because they're on the opposite side of JT's case or give a ruling that JT doesn't like is not just disrepectful, it's despicable. Just read the articles (and the over 60 pieces of evidence against Thompson) and you'll share my anger.
I'm really happy that the Florida Supreme Court reduced Jack Thompson quite a bit last week, but this is beyond pointless cases and bantering. This is a lawyer not acting like a lawyer. Not following the Code of Conduct that a judge sets out in his courtroom, and JT doesn't just break that code; he goes as far as suing the judge if a decision doesn't go his way. And that's how I see it now: He NEEDS to be disbarred, not because of his pointless and time-consuming bantering, but how he treats other people that just so happen to be on the other side of the courtroom. Disbarment for JT is a no-brainer, and I'm stunned to see that this decision has to go this long. Am I right, or am I just overreacting here? Does (and should) Thompson get what he deserves here?
